Meanings and Attachments. Contemporary art photography at Treasure

Jewellery is a statement about the wearer. Capturing this relationship in more detail, London Jewellery Week 2010 will feature the photographic exhibition Meanings and Attachment.

Meanings and Attachments is the brainchild of Mah Rana and has been an ongoing collection of images since it was conceived in 2001. It explores and illustrates the concept that the decision-making process that leads us to choose and wear particular items of jewellery is not solely attributable to the design aesthetic and monetary value of the materials used to create the objects themselves.

This emotional connection between the wearer and their purchase is at the heart of the exhibition. At London Jewellery Week centrepiece exhibition Treasure, Mah will be recording visitors and their own individual items of jewellery to collate these jewellery narratives, creating a collective voice for all those who take part.

The exhibition is an inclusive, creative and collaborative process that has engaged people from all age groups – from young to old. Participants have an option to write down their story or to record it on tape and their portraits are taken to accompany the personal narrative.

Portraits will be displayed at the Treasure exhibition itself (Victoria House, Bloomsbury from 11-13 June).

To be a part of Meanings and Attachment, simply come along on the day with your cherished piece of jewellery.
