Hatton Garden Festival

Saturday 12th June Free

What better way to start the summer than a lazy stroll through London’s oldest jewellery district. Now in its third year, the Hatton Garden Festival is not just for jewellery fanatics but will be a fun day out for young and old on the fringes of the City. From jewellery-making demonstrations to open studios, food and drink stalls to music and Victorian themed street entertainment, bring the family and enjoy a day in the sun.

To celebrate London Jewellery Week 2010, Hatton Garden will be pedestrianised and host a street festival on Saturday 12 June between 11am and 6pm. This year’s Best of British theme will bring to life the historical significance of the area which goes back centuries. Over 500 jewellery businesses, including over 80 designers and some of the country’s most skilled craftspeople and manufacturers, are to be found in studios and shops up and down the street. Charles Dickens lived in close proximity to Hatton Garden and used the area as the setting for Dickens Fagan’s Dens in Oliver Twist. Its radical residents have included Karl Marx and Hiram Maxim, who invented the machine gun. The festival will give visitors unique, behind-the-scenes access to the wonderful world of jewellery design and production.
